Lawrence, MassachusettsLawrence Police, Essex State Police Detectives, Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section arrested a 49 year-old Lawrence man in connection with the fatal shooting of Jeffrie Santana-Peguero on New Year’s Eve in Lawrence. Jose Urena was arrested this afternoon at his residence at 63 Warwick Street in Lawrence without incident. He is expected to be arraigned for murder tomorrow in Lawrence District Court.

Lawrence Police responded to the area of 170 Reservoir Street for reported homicide at 9:30 pm on New Year’s Eve. They found Mr. Santana-Peguero in a mini-van suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

“Thanks to the hard work and cooperation of the Essex District Attorney's Office, their State Police Detective Unit, Lawrence Police detectives and the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, this dangerous individual is now in custody and will be brought to justice,” said Lawrence Interim Police Chief Roy Vasque.

The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
