Social Media Policy

The fundamental purpose of this media policy is to protect the rights of victims, suspects, and defendants, while appropriately, reasonably, responsibly, and respectfully sharing information with the public.

SOCIAL MEDIA

This office uses various social media networks to inform the public about community events, office initiatives, and other related information. These pages are monitored and managed by Berkshire District Attorney's Office staff. The comments or posts of others do not necessarily reflect the opinions of this office.

Before posting, please review these terms. A posting on any of these pages constitutes acceptance of these terms.

We will endeavor to leave posts in their original form but reserve the right to hide posts contrary to the Massachusetts Rules of Professional Conduct, the Massachusetts General Laws, and general civil discourse.

Please observe the following rules and guidelines when interacting with the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office social media pages:

• Do not use this page to report a crime. To report a crime, contact your local or state Police.

• If you post information related to a crime on this page, you may be placing yourself in the position of becoming a witness to a crime, subjecting yourself to a possible subpoena.

• This office reserves the right to hide any comments that are inappropriate or offensive, including, but not limited to, comments that:

- Defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or violate the legal rights of others;
- Include racism, hatred, slander, threats, obscenity, violence, vulgarity, spam or advertising;
- Contain false or intentionally misleading information.
- Advocate for violations of any individual's human, civil, or Constitutional rights.
- Contain personal information about another person or that violates a person’s privacy, including copyright material that belongs to another person.
- Contain links to inappropriate websites.

Failure to follow the guidelines listed above may result in posts being hidden.
