Legislative Affairs in the Commissioner’s Office

Project Description:

The Legislative Affairs Office is seeking to a legislative intern to help in the day to day of the office.  The Legislative Affairs Office is tasked with tracking legislation and priories while ensuring the Commissioner’s Office is up to date with what is going on in the Legislature. 

Job Functions and outcomes: 

  • Attendance at legislative committee hearings 

  • Assisting the Legislative Group in preparing, testifying, researching, and tracking legislation with an impact on the Department 

  • Acting as a liaison to the Legislature and help the Government Affairs team with preparing answers to the Legislature. 

  • Prepare written materials (e.g., fact sheets, legislative summaries, and letters) 

Qualifications:

  • The Legislative Affairs Intern should be an individual who wants to work in the public health sphere with an emphasis on legislative and political science.  

  • They should be hoping to gain skills related to understanding the importance of public health in state government.  

  • Prior knowledge/experience with these topics is desired but not required.   

  • Seeking someone with  

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills

    • Strong analytical skills

    • Commitment to health equity  

    • Knowledge of 365 Microsoft programs including excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 

Preferred Time Commitment:

May 2023 to August 2023, 10 to 16 hours per week/180 to 270 hours total
