MCAD Anti-Discrimination Training Catalog & Registration

Our discrimination prevention training courses use interactive quizzes, case scenarios, and videos to educate participants on their rights and teach employers their responsibilities under the Massachusetts anti-discrimination laws. All courses are currently being offered as live virtual trainings.

Community Trainings

The MCAD's Community course is an interactive training seminars geared towards community groups and individuals who want to learn more about their rights in Massachusetts.

"Know Your Rights" Training

(90 mins) This course is for community groups and individual across the Commonwealth. Participants will learn the basics of Massachusetts anti-discrimination law in employment, housing, and public accommodations. The MCAD often partners with nonprofit organizations and adult education centers to offer “Know Your Rights” trainings to their clients.

The MCAD's primary courses are interactive training seminars that cover up-to-date information on Massachusetts anti-discrimination laws in any given field.

Employment Discrimination 101

(3-4 hours) This half-day course covers the following topics: disparate treatment, harassment, disability accommodations, religious accommodations, and pregnancy accommodations. This is perfect for all staff members, supervisors, and HR professionals who do not have a background in anti-discrimination law. This course includes only an overview of sexual harassment and should not be used to fulfill a sexual harassment training requirement.

Housing Discrimination 101

(3 hours) This three-hour course covers anti-discrimination laws for all landlords, realtors, lenders, and other housing providers. We will exam scenarios specific to housing and discuss service animals in depth. This course includes fair advertising law.

Sexual Harassment in the Workplace 101: All-Staff Training

(3 hour) This comprehensive training focuses on sexual harassment in the workplace. After an overview of Massachusetts anti-discrimination law, we take a deep dive into techniques and tools for addressing sexual harassment. Topics include: nuances in the sexual harassment legal standard, reviewing your organization’s sexual harassment policy and code of conduct, and bystander intervention. This course is for all staff members and could be used as your annual sexual harassment training.

Sexual Harassment in the Workplace 101: Supervisor Training

(6 hours) For the first half of this all-day course, we will complete “Employment Discrimination 101.” After learning the basics of anti-discrimination law, we will do a deep dive into techniques and tools for addressing sexual harassment. Topics include: nuances in the sexual harassment legal standard, crafting sexual harassment policies and trainings, the role of the “code of conduct,” and bystander intervention. This course is for supervisors or HR professionals who do not have a background in civil rights law.

Bystander Intervention 101

(90 mins) Bystander intervention is a philosophy that encourages all people to accept personal responsibility when they witness an uncomfortable situation at work and intervene to ensure the well-being and/or safety of others. In this training, participants will learn specific tools for responding to uncomfortable situations at work and practice bystander intervention with hypothetical scenarios.

The MCAD review courses are refresher courses geared towards audiences that are familiar with Massachusetts Anti-discrimination Laws and who are looking to review the material.

Employment Discrimination 102

(90 min) This 90-minute refresher course is perfect for all staff members, supervisors, and HR professionals who have taken MCAD’s “Employment Discrimination 101” within the last year. During this 90-minute session, we will review the content covered in our "Employment Discrimination 101" 3-hour training through an interactive game. This training is not suitable for new employees or employees who have not taken “Workplace Discrimination 101”.

Sexual Harassment in the Workplace 102

This training is not appropriate for new employees or employees who have not taken the three-hour “Sexual Harassment in the Workplace 101” course.

(90 min) The Sexual Harassment in the Workplace - Legal Overview session focuses on MA state law that governs sexual harassment in the workplace. This session is for staff members, supervisors, and HR professionals who want to learn more about sexual harassment law prior to conducting a comprehensive workplace sexual harassment training. This training should not be used as a replacement for comprehensive workplace sexual harassment training.

Accommodation Requests 201

Prerequisite: Employment Discrimination 101

(3 hours) This hands-on three-hour training explores employers’ responsibility to provide disability, religious and pregnancy accommodations at every stage of the employment relationship. It presents effective methods for considering and implementing accommodation requests; this course is a truncated version of our three-day “Responding to Accommodation Requests 301” course for EEO professionals.

Train-the-Trainer: Workplace Discrimination & Harassment 301

This multi-day training prepares participants to deliver thorough, accurate, interactive training to prevent discrimination and harassment in the workplace. In addition, participants learn the essential skills of training related to disability and religious accommodation. The course includes model training segments for supervisors and staff, and a practicum where students receive feedback from seasoned discrimination prevention trainers.

  • An asterisk (*) signals “Foundations of Law,” Participants are excused from this day if they have participated in one of our courses previously.
  • All courses are held virtually, and participants are required to attend all dates listed for each course.
  • All participants must remain on camera and have access to a microphone.

Cancellation Policy

Due to the popularity of our courses, the MCAD does not offer refunds on its 301 level courses. If you cannot attend a 301 course, you may send an attendee in your place. If you cancel your attendance at least 2 business days prior to the commencement of the course, you may qualify for a one-time deferment of your enrollment to the following year if there is a participant on the wait-list to take your spot. If a participant does not take your spot, you may forfeit your registration fee.
