Applications for the Summer 2023 Women+ in Finance Fellowship are no longer being accepted. This page will be updated if and when future opportunities become available. Learn more about the program below.
The fellowship is open to undergraduate students attending an institution of higher education located in Massachusetts or undergraduate students who reside in Massachusetts but attend an institution of higher education located elsewhere in the United States.
The Massachusetts Women+ in Finance Fellowship is a paid fellowship opportunity for undergraduate students interested in entering the financial services industry. In 2016, it debuted as the first fellowship of its kind sponsored by a government organization. The purpose of the program is to identify and foster diverse talent for the financial industry, build an equitable network and pipeline for people in finance, and advocate for the placement of women and non-binary people in leadership roles. Women, including those presenting or identifying as women, non-binary people, and students with a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the financial services industry are especially encouraged to apply.
Fellows accepted into the program will be assigned to departments within the Massachusetts State Treasury or to quasi-agencies chaired by the Office of the State Treasurer: Debt Management, the Massachusetts School Building Authority, the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission, the Massachusetts State Retirement Board, and the Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management Board. Each fellow will be assigned to a specific mentor within the department, who will meet with them regularly throughout the program. Fellows will be provided with the professional skills they need to launch their careers in finance and will benefit from a mentoring program designed to help them navigate the industry.
In addition to professional experience, fellows will be offered leadership programming and will be given the opportunity to attend Office of Economic Empowerment virtual events, including informational seminars, resume workshops, financial education discussions, and other professional development opportunities.
Fellowships are scheduled to run during the summer. Fellows will be paid $18 per hour and are required to commit to 37.5 hours per week.
