Craig Gilvarg, Press Secretary
Boston — The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) today announced it is now accepting nominations for its annual Secretary’s Awards for Excellence in Energy and Environmental Education. Applications will be accepted until Friday, April 16, 2021. All public and private Massachusetts schools (K-12) that offer energy and environmental education programs are eligible to apply for the Secretary’s Awards, which highlight work both in the classroom and through remote teaching involving clean energy and environmental protection advocacy.
“Our students and teachers have worked hard over the last year to adjust to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and continue learning, and I am proud to recognize the efforts of our educators and young leaders to embrace environmental and energy education and protect our natural resources,” said EEA Secretary Kathleen Theoharides. “The Baker-Polito Administration looks forward to receiving nominations for educators, schools, and nonprofits that are inspiring our students through creative educational programming and challenging them to make a positive impact in their communities.”
EEA Secretary Kathleen Theoharides will join a virtual event this spring to recognize Massachusetts teachers and students involved in school-based programs that promote environmental and energy education. Details on the virtual event will be released in the coming weeks.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, last year’s Secretary’s Awards for Excellence in Energy and Environmental Education were suspended. Applications received prior to the suspension announcement will be considered for the 2021 awards.
