EOLWD Apprenticeship Growth and Expansion Grant Opportunity

To: Registered Apprenticeship Sponsors and Workforce Partners

From: Patrick Mitchell, Director

Date: March 3, 2021

Subject: Apprenticeship Growth and Expansion Grant Opportunity

Purpose: To notify Massachusetts Registered Apprenticeship Sponsors, prospective sponsors, Related Technical Instruction training partners and other workforce development partners of an Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) grant funding opportunity announced March 1, 2021.

Background: In June 2018, the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) published the Apprenticeship Expansion Plan: 2018, a strategic planning document compiled with inputs from and the support of multiple education, business, labor, legislative, and community partners. The goals of the strategic plan are to expand Registered Apprenticeship to priority industries of healthcare, manufacturing, and technology; diversify the existing apprenticeship workforce; and enhance apprenticeship programs through varying strategies.

To support the goals of the Apprentice Expansion Plan, Governor Baker and the Massachusetts Legislature approved a first-time state line-item, 7003-0151. Accordingly, state line-item apprenticeship grants will be issued in alignment with the strategic plan and will be further complemented by federally funded apprenticeship grants awarded to the Commonwealth and intended to achieve similar goals, including impact beyond expansion sector apprenticeship growth.

Announcement: On March 1, 2021, EOLWD released Request for Responses (RFR) Apprenticeship Growth & Expansion Grants (Commbuys Bid Number 21-1043-1043C1043L-59235), which can be found here:
