Boston — Today, State Auditor Suzanne Bump was named president of the Association of Government Accountants’ Boston Chapter (AGA Boston) at their annual Professional Development Conference at Bentley University.
AGA Boston serves professionals in the government financial management community by providing quality education, fostering professional development, and participating in local community projects for the New England area. In the past three years, the chapter has grown more than 50%, adding 116 members to reach its current total of 337.
In an effort to promote the level of professionalism within her office, Auditor Bump has strongly encouraged her staff to pursue advanced certifications, to join professional organizations, and to seek leadership positions within them. Since taking office in 2011, more than half of new AGA Boston members have come from Auditor Bump’s own staff. As a result of the work of the Auditor and her staff, the OSA received recognition today from the national office.
Auditor Bump succeeds Ernest Almonte, former Auditor General of Rhode Island, for a one year term as President. Massachusetts State Comptroller, Marty Benison, today was named president-elect. Duties of AGA’s regional Presidents include being responsible for the overall operation of the chapter, presiding over monthly meetings of the chapter’s leadership, and coordinating with the AGA’s national office.
Nationally AGA membership includes more than 16,000 state auditors, finance directors, federal chief financial officers, academicians and private sector leaders. Through education, research, publications, certification and conferences, AGA reaches thousands of professionals and offers more than 100,000 continuing professional education (CPE) hours annually.
