Boston — Today, the Baker-Polito Administration announced three Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) ice rinks within the City of Boston will offer free public skating on January 1, 2020 (skate rental fees may apply). Residents and visitors will have yet another great opportunity to enjoy a healthy and fun activity this holiday with free skating on New Year’s Day. Additionally, First Day Hikes will continue for the 29th year in a row at DCR state parks across the Commonwealth.

“Contained throughout the Massachusetts state parks system are incredible recreational facilities, like ice rinks, that enable us all to incorporate exercise in our daily lives,” said DCR Acting Commissioner Jim Montgomery. “First Day Skate programming serves as an excellent example of the Baker-Polito Administration’s dedication to promoting these types of facilities and expanding access to state managed resources, and it is my hope that everyone has an opportunity to experience what the state parks system has to offer this upcoming New Year’s Day.”

First Day Skate participants are encouraged to tweet, post, and tag photos on social media using @MassDCR and #FirstDaySkate. The following DCR ice rinks will offer public skating on New Year’s Day:
