WELLFLEETThe Baker-Polito Administration today announced that Wellfleet Hollow State Campground (formerly Paine’s Campground) in the Town of Wellfleet will commence its first camping season under the management of the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Starting on Friday, May 10, 2019, guests will be able to make reservations at the campground for the season, which is from Thursday, May 23, 2019 through Saturday, September 7, 2019.

“The Massachusetts state parks system offers incredible landscapes that provide residents and visitors with great opportunities to get outside and explore nature,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Kathleen Theoharides. “Camping remains a beloved adventure that children and their families have long appreciated and enjoyed, and Wellfleet Hollow State Campground will continue to provide affordable camping opportunities for years to come.”

In 2018, the DCR purchased the campground, and began managing the facility during the fall season. Since then, several enhancements have been completed, including:

  • Improvements to the campground’s infrastructure;
  • Roadway repair work;
  • Campsite enhancements, such as new fire rings; and,
  • The conversion of the former residence building into a camp office and park headquarters with an accessible restroom.

Wellfleet Hollow State Campground will offer 107 tent/pop-up campsites for $22 for Massachusetts residents/$35 for out-of-state residents. There is an $8.65 non-refundable transaction charge for reservations; additionally, sites with electric hookups will incur a $6 per night charge, and sites with water hookups will incur a $4 per night charge. A group campsite for 10-25 people is also available for $35 for Massachusetts residents and $50 for out-of-state residents. Reservations will be available online at www.ReserveAmerica.com or by contacting the call center at 1-877-422-6762.

“By purchasing and making improvements to Wellfleet Hollow State Campground, the Baker-Polito Administration is continuing its efforts to make significant investments to the state parks system, where people from around the world come and visit the Commonwealth’s natural, cultural, and recreational resources,” said Department of Conservation and Recreation Commissioner Leo Roy. “The DCR is extremely excited to open Wellfleet Hollow State Campground this year, and we are proud of our efforts to maintain the quiet, quaint nature of this amazing family-friendly campground.”

Furthermore, on Friday, May 24, 2019, at dusk the DCR will celebrate the opening of Wellfleet Hollow State Campground, where the public is invited to gather around a community campfire and roast s’mores. The opening of the campground follows last year’s announcement by the Baker-Polito Administration to re-open Massasoit State Park Campground, which was closed in 2008.

In fall 2019, the DCR plans to conduct additional enhancements at the campground, including accessible sites and comfort station improvements. Additional information, including campground site locations, amenities, check-in/check-out times, and other details, can be found on the Wellfleet Hollow State Park campground reservation page located at www.ReserveAmerica.com.
