Boston — Executive Office for Administration and Finance Secretary Kristen Lepore today announced the appointment of Mark Nunnelly as the next Commissioner for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, effective March 30, 2015. Mr. Nunnelly, a former Managing Director of Bain Capital, will replace current Commissioner Amy Pitter at the agency responsible for compliance with the state’s tax, child support and municipal finance laws. Mr. Nunnelly has also been named as special advisor to Governor Baker for technology and innovation competitiveness, where he will advise the governor on making Massachusetts a more attractive environment for creating and growing innovation companies.
“I am excited to have Mark join my administration in these important roles,” said Governor Baker. “His track record of building organizations and growing companies in Massachusetts and across the country will add greatly to our policy discussions and initiative.”

Mark Nunnelly joined Bain Capital, one of the world’s foremost private investment firms, in 1989 as a Managing Director. He has held a number of leadership roles as part of the firm’s growth and global expansion and worked extensively in the business services and technology industries. Prior to joining Bain Capital, Mr. Nunnelly was a Partner at the consulting firm Bain & Company, working in the US, Asian and European strategy practices. Previously, he worked at Procter & Gamble in product management. Nunnelly also founded and had operating responsibility for several entrepreneurial ventures. He has been deeply involved and a supporter of a number of Massachusetts and national philanthropic efforts, with a particular focus on children and national service. Mr. Nunnelly became a special limited partner of Bain Capital in 2014 and currently serves on several not for profit and for profit boards of directors. Mr. Nunnelly received an MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School and received an AB from Centre College.
