The Massachusetts Probation Service (MPS) recognized its employees who have served our country at its 3rd Annual Veterans Breakfast at the Massachusetts Training and Operations Center (MTOC) in Clinton where approximately 75 people turned out to honor or be honored for serving in the military. There are roughly 40 MPS employees who are listed as veterans.

This special event, coordinated by MPS’ training staff, was held Tuesday, November 5, and featured a welcome address by Probation Commissioner Edward Dolan. Dolan thanked the veterans for their service and acknowledged their training and skills as well as the discipline and commitment they bring to their positions and MPS. Members of MPS’ Executive Team — First Deputy Commissioner Dianne Fasano, Deputy Commissioner-Pre-Trial Services Pamerson Ifill, Deputy Commissioner-Field Services Brian Mirasolo, Deputy Commissioner-Programs Michael Coelho, Deputy Commissioner-Administrative Services Yvonne Roland, and Legal Counsel Sarah Joss — all attended. Under Commissioner Dolan's Administration, the MPS Veteran Liaison Initiative has successfully referred over 3,700 deserving veterans into services. The initiative includes 111 Veteran Liaisons.

“This is our third annual breakfast. Jason Thomas, who oversees Veterans Services for the Trial Court, joined in cohosting our celebration of the invaluable work of the Veterans Liaison Officers from across the state and in our recognition of Veterans in the Probation Service,” said Probation Commissioner Edward J. Dolan.

Dolan added, “It is an honor to have this group of veterans who served our country employed by the Massachusetts Probation Service. They have made important sacrifices and we appreciate them and their invaluable work in the communities and courts throughout the Commonwealth.”

A Massachusetts Trial Court Color Guard was on hand at the event. Essex Superior Court Probation Officer Todd Angilly sang “The National Anthem.” Invited guests included representatives from the Massachusetts Trial Court, the Department of Public Health, and Veterans Administration. The ceremony was followed by breakfast and an educational program for Veteran Liaisons. The program also featured an introduction by Trial Court Veterans Programs Coordinator Jason Thomas. This program included a segment on Suicide Awareness in Veterans Populations, and How to Assist a Veteran Experiencing Homelessness, according to Training Director Patricia Gavin, who together with training staff Lead Program Manager Diane Richard and MTOC Administrative Coordinator Julie Grady planned the event. The Montachusett Veteran Outreach and New England Center and Home for Veterans were also present to discuss their programs and resources.
