Boston — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is announcing that it will host the drawing for the annual Low Number License Plate Lottery on Monday, September 9, 2019. The drawing will be held at 11:00 a.m., in the State Transportation Building (second floor Transportation Boardroom) located at 10 Park Plaza in Boston.
This year, 13,652 low number plate lottery applications have been submitted for 231 eligible plates. In 2018, the Registry received over 11,477 applications for 201 plates.
If an applicant of the lottery is selected as a winner, a special reserve plate fee is required in addition to the base registration fee. Low number plates must be renewed every two years, and customers can retain these plates as long as they remain in good standing.
The names of all low number license plate winners are anticipated to be posted on the Registry’s website www.mass.gov/rmv by close of business on Tuesday, September 10. In addition, each successful applicant will receive a letter from the Registry that includes instructions on how to register the new low number plate.
By law, winners of the lottery must be announced each year by September 15.
