NORTH ADAMSNorth Adams Fire Chief Brent M. Lefebvre and State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey said the May 25, 2021 North Adams junk yard fire at 80 State Street in North Adams was accidental.

The cause of the fire was a result of heavy equipment being used on a car that still had gasoline in the tank. The gasoline vapors ignited causing the fire. The operation was routine in terms of what the junk yard does daily.

The fire was jointly investigated by the North Adams Fire and Police Departments and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
