A third person on the state's new Ten Most Wanted for failure to pay child support, Germaine Robert Jensen, was arrested last night at a bus stop in Edgewater, Maryland by Ann Arundel County Police, the Massachusetts Department of Revenue announced today.
Jensen is being held in the county detention center in Annapolis, MD on a charge of failure to support a child and is expected to appear in court in Maryland on Monday.
Jensen, 32, whose last known address in Massachusetts was in Pembroke, owes $24,195 in unpaid child support for two children ages 9 and 5. Child support officials in Maryland found Jensen on an employment data match late last month. DOR learned of Jensen's whereabouts after receiving child support payments from Jensen on September 12 and 17 as a result of the data match. DOR in turn notified local law enforcement of the fact that Jensen was in Maryland and that a criminal warrant for Jensen's arrest had been issued earlier this month. Sheriff's deputies went yesterday to Jensen's employer, who said Jensen had recently quit and then pointed to him standing across the street at a bus stop, where he was arrested.
Jensen and the custodial parent were married in 2001 and separated shortly after the birth of their youngest child in 2003. He was ordered to pay $150 in weekly child support in 2004, but left the state around that time.
This is the third arrest since Lt. Gov. Tim Murray unveiled the new Ten Most Wanted poster for failure to pay child support on September 10. Police in Conway NH arrested Peter Gerald Cantin, who owes $75,496 in child support for two children, on September 11. Cantin appeared in Salem District Court on Wednesday and was held on $75,000 cash bail. Boston Police arrested Gene Kerswell, who owes $50,508 in child support for two children, on September 14. Kerswell was arraigned yesterday in Great Barrington District Court and held on $10,000 cash bail.
Listed on the poster are 10 parents who together owe $646,913 in unpaid child support for 19 children. The poster stresses the importance of paying child support and the consequences of failure to do so. It is the 14th edition of the Ten Most Wanted poster prepared by the DOR's Child Support Enforcement unit. In the previous 13 posters, 97 of the 113 people displayed were located resulting in the collection of about $3.6 million in unpaid child support.
