LANCASTERLancaster Fire Chief Michael Hanson and State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey said the cause of the February 18, 2021 fire at 26 Runaway Brook Road in Lancaster was the failure of the woodstove pipe. It is considered a total loss. There were two minor firefighter injuries.

The failure of the stovepipe connected to the woodstove allowed heat and gases to escape into the pipe chase and ignite structural members.

The Lancaster Fire and Police Departments and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal jointly investigated the fire. The Lancaster Building Department provided assistance.
