Public Warehouse

Prior to owning or operating a public warehouse in Massachusetts, a person or corporation must obtain a license from the Division of Regulated Activities.

Public warehouse operators must provide notice to the community in which they intend to operate by placing public notice advertisements. They must secure a bond to protect the property they will store. Licenses are issued only once and need not be renewed.
Please note that self-service storage facilities are not regulated by the Department.
A public warehouse is any building, or portion of a building, used for the storage of merchandise as a business.
