Annual Enrollment for GIC Retired Municipal Teachers (RMTs)

Options for GIC RMTs during Annual Enrollment.

GIC Municipal Teachers (RMTs) retiring in June have until June 15 to select their GIC coverage. See your benefits department and the RMT section of this site for more information. If you are a current RMT, you can change your plan elections during Annual Enrollment April 4 - May 2, 2018 for changes effective July 1, 2018.


If you are retiring teacher from a city, town or school district that participates in the GIC Retired Municipal Teacher (Non-municipal health-only) program , and will be receiving a pension from the Teachers' Retirement Board, you are eligible for GIC coverage if you have at least basic life insurance or health insurance through the participating city/town/district on the date of your retirement. If you do not elect GIC coverage at retirement, you may enroll in GIC coverage during the GIC's annual enrollment April 4 - May 2, 2018, or within 60 days of a qualifying status change, provided you had at least basic life insurance or health insurance through a participating city/town district on the date of your retirement.

Benefit Options

  • Life Insurance - This amount is determined by your city/town/district.
  • Life and Health Insurance with a choice of several health plans offered by the Group Insurance Commission . You may choose individual or family health coverage. Certain rules apply for those eligible for Medicare.
  • Retiree Dental Plan

For Annual Enrollment changes, return completed forms to the GIC no later than Wednesday, May 2, 2018.
