The Bureau of Health Professions Licensure is charged with the licensure and oversight of nine health care professions (Dentistry, Genetic Counselors, Nursing, Nursing Home Administrators, Perfusionists, Pharmacy, Physician Assistants, Respiratory Care, and Community Health Workers). Licensure is a critical component of private health law practices and many public health initiatives.
Intern students will assist Board Counsel in providing legal advice to the Boards of Registration and the Bureau of Health Professions Licensure on multiple topics including administrative law, health law, compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, and licensure and enforcement actions. Students will assist Board Counsel with the following: drafting settlement agreements/contracts; analyzing state and federal law governing certain health professions; conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda; attend Board meetings; and evaluate evidence of alleged violations.
Students will gain valuable experience and exposure with the following: due process rights before a government agency; licensure of health care professionals; interpreting and applying laws and regulations; state regulatory bodies; drafting and promulgating regulations; enforcement actions; and client meetings.
