The Boston Harbor Islands Complex encompasses 17 islands and Webb Memorial State Park located on a peninsula in Weymouth. Six islands in the Boston Harbor Islands Complex are served by public ferry service. There are three gateway islands with visitor centers; Georges, Spectacle and Peddocks. Food concessions are also available on Georges and Spectacle Islands. Camping is a very popular activity that is permitted on four of the islands. Visitation has increased by 35% since 2009.

The park includes two historic forts, numerous prehistoric archaeological sites, and a variety of important ecological resources. DCR is fortunate to be a member of a strong partnership that works to coordinate activities of the harbor islands managers. The Boston Harbor Islands Partnership includes:  Department of Conservation and Recreation, National Park Service, Boston Harbor Island Alliance, U.S. Coast Guard, Massachusetts Port Authority, Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, City of Boston, Boston Redevelopment Authority, Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center, and Boston Harbor Islands Advisory Council.

Public input is an important component of the RMP process. It enhances communication and cooperation among the DCR, park visitors, stakeholders, partners, and the surrounding communities. On December 9, 2014, DCR hosted a public meeting to present information about the RMP planning process for the Harbor Islands Complex. At the meeting, DCR heard public concerns and ideas about recreation and stewardship of resources in the parks.
