Important Paper Claims Information: As of January 1, 2012, MassHealth has moved toward an all-electronic claims submission policy to achieve greater efficiency. All claims must be submitted electronically, unless the provider has received an approved electronic claim submission waiver. 90-day waiver requests and final deadline appeals may be submitted either electronically via the Provider Online Service Center (POSC) or on paper.

You can submit claims requiring attachments as follows:

  • You can submit claims electronically with attachments using the direct data entry (DDE) functionality on the Provider Online Service Center (POSC). An electronic copy of your attachment(s) can be uploaded with the claim.
  • You can submit claims on paper with paper attachments, if you have an approved electronic claim submission waiver.

Note: “Attachments” does not refer to coordination of benefits (COB) attachments, such as an explanation of benefits (EOB) from another insurer or explanation of Medicare benefits (EOMB) from Medicare.
