Division of Professional Licensure / DPL Board of Registration

The Division of Professional Licensure, an agency within the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, protects consumers by making sure the professionals they hire comply with state licensing laws. DPL oversees 39 boards of registration, which license and regulate more than 580,000 individuals and business to practice some 167 trades and professions. DPL also licenses and regulates the Office of Public Safety and Inspections, and the Office of Private Occupational Schools.

Division of Insurance

The Division of Insurance administers the laws of the Commonwealth as they pertain to the protection of the insurance consumer through the regulation of the insurance industry. The DOI monitors financial solvency, licenses insurance companies and producers, reviews and approves rates and forms, and coordinates the takeover and liquidation of insolvent insurance companies and the rehabilitation of financially troubled companies. They investigate and enforce state laws and regulations pertaining to insurance and responds to consumer inquiries and complaints.

Division of Standards

The Division is responsible for enforcing the accuracy requirements and other standards relating to weighing and measuring devices and the use thereof in the sale of food, fuels and other products. DOS regulates the sale of gasoline and sets standards for lubricating oils and antifreeze, including the inspection of all fuel dispensing equipment for required markings pertaining to grade and brand. The Division also tests and approves coin operated devices, licenses auctioneers, transient vendors, promoters, peddlers, motor fuel and oil retailers and registers auto damage repair shops. In addition the Division enforces the item pricing law and unit pricing regulations and item pricing waivers to retail food stores.
