How the public input process for HCBS waiver renewal applications works

Home- and Community- Based Services (HCBS) waivers are typically approved for a five-year period. They must then be renewed with the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This webpage contains information about waivers MassHealth is currently renewing with CMS. Please see below for links to the waiver renewal applications and information about how to provide feedback on the renewals to MassHealth.

Overview: TBI Waiver Renewal Application—Public Input Due by Friday, January 11, 2019

This section contains information about the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Waiver renewal. MassHealth is currently working with the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) to renew the TBI Waiver.

Please see below for links to the waiver renewal application and information about how to provide feedback on the renewal to MassHealth. Please note that feedback must be submitted by Friday, January 11, 2019.

As part of the waiver renewal process, MassHealth and MRC propose updates to the TBI Waiver. As summarized below, proposed updates include:

  • Adding new service component types for Supported Employment to enable waiver participants to access a broader range of Supported Employment providers
  • Expanding the scope of Specialized Medical Equipment coverage by adding assessment of equipment needs, repairs, and training in the use of equipment
  • Expanding the scope of Home Accessibility Adaptations coverage to include architectural consultation
  • Expanding the scope of Transitional Assistance coverage to include housing search support
  • Establishing an overall aggregate service limit of 84 hours per week for any combination of Homemaker, Adult Companion, and Individual Support and Community Habilitation services, consistent with other Massachusetts HCBS waivers
  • Removing unused waiver services, specifically Personal Care and Chore, and
  • Technical corrections and clarifications.
