Licensing Guidance for Radioactive Material

The Radiation Control Program regulates the possession and use of Radioactive Material.

Certain uses of radioactive material require a specific license issued by the Radiation Control Program.

Licensing guidance

Except for applications for XRFs for lead paint analysis, applicants should follow the program-specific licensing guidance provided for in U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s NUREG-1556 series upon submitting applications to the Program.

The downloads below of available licensing guidance documents are intended only for general guidance in the preparation of the license application and should not be considered as a substitute for the applicant's careful evaluation of the proposed use of radioactive material.

Applicants must assure that the application correctly and adequately describes radiation safeguards and procedures to be followed in their radioactive material use program.
