Lynn Armory

Historic military armory to be rehabilitated for veterans housing and services.

On August 31, 2018, Governor Baker signed into law an act authorizing the sale of the vacant Lynn Armory located at 38 South Common Street to Neighborhood Development Associates (NDA), Inc. a non-profit organization overseen by the Lynn Housing Authority.  The Lynn Armory is an iconic historic property built in 1893 that is also part of a historic District in Lynn.  On January 25, 2019, the conveyance was completed by the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance's (DCAMM’s) Office of Real Estate Management (OREM).

NDA is planning to convert the structure into approximately 45 units of affordable veterans housing and/or a facility providing veterans’ services.  This project reflects a multi-faceted success serving Massachusetts veterans, revitalization and preservation of a historic landmark, and activation of an under-utilized property. Additionally, the sale eliminates the Commonwealth’s carrying costs associated with the maintenance of the property. NDA is currently pursuing financing and historic tax credits for the $24 million project.
