Making a wireless 9-1-1 call

Because wireless calls don't necessarily give away your location, it's important to remember what information you need to provide if you have to make an emergency call with your cell phone.

What to remember

If making a call to 911 using your cell phone, remember to:

  • Be prepared to give more specific details about your location, even if you phone has location services
  • Look for landmarks to understand your location
  • Know what your phone number is
  • Know that your call may be routed to another call center, as all wireless calls go to one of multiple Massachusetts State Police call centers
  • Call back if your call is accidentally disconnected
  • Pull over if you can
