Coastal stormwater management through green infrastructure
MassBays received technical support through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 2014 to develop a handbook and workshop series for coastal communities seeking to improve local water quality through stormwater management. Unlike storm drains that transport polluted runoff directly to coastal waters, "green infrastructure" - rain gardens, wetland swales, and pervious pavement - mimics natural habitats, holding water in place and filtering out many pollutants before they reach waterways.
