MassDOT Fraud, Waste and Abuse

Report suspected MassDOT fraud, waste and abuse to the Inspector General's Internal Special Audit Unit.

The Internal Special Audit Unit (“ISAU”) within the Office of the Inspector General monitors the quality, efficiency and integrity of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s (“MassDOT”) operating and capital programs. As part of its statutory mandate, the ISAU seeks to prevent, detect and correct fraud, waste and abuse in the expenditure of public and private transportation funds. The ISAU is also responsible for examining and evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of MassDOT’s operations, including its governance, risk-management practices and internal processes. It is the Office's practice to maintain the names of all complainants in confidence. Individuals are encouraged to report suspected fraud, waste and abuse of transportation funds by confidential email, telephone or mail. 

  • Please note: The Office of the Inspector General and the Internal Special Audit Unit do not review or resolve billing or toll-collection disputes related to electronic tolling or E-Z Pass. Please call the E-Z Pass customer service center at (877) 627-7745 for all billing and toll-collection disputes.
