MassHealth covers a broad range of family planning, reproductive health, and postpartum care services, all with no out-of-pocket costs.
Reproductive Services include:
- Family Planning Services
- 12-month supply of prescription contraception (pills, patches, rings, or injectable birth control)
- Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC), which include intrauterine devices (Mirena, Paragard, etc.) and Nexplanon implant
- Emergency contraception (a.k.a. Plan B or the morning-after pill) without a prescription
- Wellness exams including breast exams, pelvic and pap exams, and birth control counseling
- Testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis
- Pregnancy, birth and postpartum care
- Prenatal visits
- Pregnancy health care counseling, including smoking and substance use counseling
- Pregnancy-risk assessment and monitoring
- Labor and delivery, including postpartum visit(s)
- Postpartum depression and anxiety screening and treatment
- Abortion Services
- Surgical abortion (in-person procedure)
- Medication abortion (including Mifepristone and Misoprostol)
All of the above services are available to MassHealth members at no cost, and comprehensive MassHealth coverage is available for at least 12 months postpartum. Reproductive health services can be accessed via your primary care provider, OB/GYN provider, family planning clinic, or hospital. Find a provider in your area here.
