Morgan-Sullivan Bridge Closure, Saturday, April 24
MassDOT will close the Morgan-Sullivan Bridge on Saturday, April 24, from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM for contractor operations requiring occupancy of all vehicular lanes.
Vehicles will be detoured during this closure. See the Detours page for detour routes and maps.
The work hours are subject to change based on traffic impacts. Drivers should reduce speeds and expect traffic delays while traveling through the work zone.
The schedule for this major infrastructure project is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
Long-Term Lane Closures on Morgan-Sullivan Bridge
MassDOT's contractor, Northern Construction, reduced Route 147 over the Morgan-Sullivan Bridge to one lane of travel in each direction in January 2019 for Bridge Work Stage 1. During Bridge Work Stage 1, vehicular traffic was shifted to the east side of the bridge while crews demolished and replaced the west side.
Bridge Work Stage 2 began on July 11, 2020, when vehicular traffic was shifted to the newly constructed west side of the bridge. Crews are now working on demolishing and replacing the east side. Similar to the Stage 1 configuration, one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on the bridge for Stage 2. Additionally, a left turn lane at each end of the bridge was opened, which will help improve traffic flow.
MassDOT is scheduled to reopen the Morgan-Sullivan Bridge to its final configuration in Spring of 2022.
