Long-Term Lane Closures on Morgan-Sullivan Bridge Completed on April 24
MassDOT's contractor, Northern Construction, reduced Route 147 over the Morgan-Sullivan Bridge to one lane of travel in each direction in January 2019 for Bridge Work Stage 1. During Bridge Work Stage 1, vehicular traffic was shifted to the east side of the bridge while crews demolished and replaced the west side.
Bridge Work Stage 2 began on July 11, 2020, when vehicular traffic was shifted to the newly constructed west side of the bridge.
On April 24, 2021, the Morgan-Sullivan Bridge reopened to all five lanes of traffic, bringing Bridge Work Stage 2 to a close. Although work remains that will require temporary lane closures, all lanes of traffic will be available outside of work hours. Among remaining items of work are placement of the top course of pavement and permanent pavement markings.
