Notice Inviting Comment on Proposed Amendments to the Mass. Rules of Civil Procedure

The Standing Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure solicits comments on proposed amendments to the Mass. R. Civ. P. in light of the adoption of SJC Rule 1:25: Massachusetts Rules of Electronic Filing.

The Standing Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure (SAC) solicits comments on proposed amendments to the Mass. R. Civ. P. in light of the adoption of the Massachusetts Rules of Electronic Filing (Mass. R.E.F.)  SJC Rule 1:25.  The SAC is proposing amendments to Rules 3, 5, 6, 10, 11, and 77 (and an addition to the Reporter's Note to Rule 4) to reflect procedures authorized by the Mass. R.E.F. The amendments proposed by the SAC focus on key rules regarding the initiation and conduct of civil proceedings such as commencement, service and electronic signatures. Additional amendments may be proposed in the future after further experience with electronic filing.

Burak, Supreme Judicial Court, John Adams Courthouse, One Pemberton Square, Boston, MA  02108 on or before October 9, 2020. Comments may also be emailed to christine.burak@sjc.state.ma.us. Comments received will be made available to the public.
