Protective services

Protective Services information from DPPC.

DPPC's regulations define protective services as "the services arranged for or implemented by a protective service agency to a person with a disability who has been determined to be in a state of abuse or neglect".

Protective services are recommended during the course of an investigation when risk has been identified. These recommendations are required in cases where abuse has been substantiated. Actions recommended are typically short term in nature and intended to remediate abusive situations and eliminate risk. DPPC's oversight officers conduct follow up on actions recommended by investigators to ensure that they are appropriate recommendations and that the actions are implemented.

Protective services are

  • Services provided to protect individuals in response to an incident of abuse or neglect
  • Generally time limited, transitional in nature and act as a bridge between the crisis and on-going service delivery
  • To be implemented to protect individuals from being abused again
