Restoring High Marsh in the Parker River Estuary

Funding for this project was provided by MassBays to The Trustees of Reservations (2018)

About the project

Funding will be used to support the critical first phase of a ditch remediation project that seeks to restore salt marsh in the Parker River Estuary, mitigating the negative impacts of agricultural and mosquito control history of ditching, and protecting habitat that protects neighboring communities from storm surge and rising sea levels. Targeting 85 acres of salt marsh at Old Town Hill in Newbury, the team will implement a new and innovative, nature-based technique  and demonstrate its applicability to help existing coastal marsh ecosystems keep pace with sea-level rise and stay intact for as long as possible through sediment collection and accretion.
