Register for TY20 In-Service Instructor Certification Train-the-Trainer

The MPTC is in the process of scheduling this year's in-service train-the-trainer classes.

Potential instructors must meet the prerequisites for the topic(s) in order to register for instructor certification training to be certified as an instructional trainer at Training Year 2020 mandated in-service programs. 

Police Survival Train-the-Trainer

Police Survival is one of the mandatory TY 2020 In-service topics. This block of instruction will prepare the instructor to teach Police Survival in this year's In-service. A Power Point and lesson plan will be provided.

This topic will cover:

  • What suicide is
  • How an officer gets to the point of suicide; stress symptoms, signs of burnout, why officers turn to suicide, warning signs, risk factors, symptoms of depression
  • What other officers can do to prevent officer suicide, how to be a good listener & communicator, coping skills, and resources both in the department and outside the department.

Prerequisite: You must meet one of the qualifications below to register to become certified as an instructional trainer in Police Survival

  • Suicide Instructor
  • Stress & Stigma Instructor
  • Police Response to Persons with Mental Illness Instructor 
  • Police Interaction to Persons with Mental Illness Instructor 
  • Mental Health First Aid Instructor
  • CIT
  • Mental health clinician

Police Survival Train the Trainer Schedule
There are only five (5) Police Survival Train the Trainer classes being offered. There will not be additional Police Survival Train the Trainer classes scheduled.

Criminal Procedures, Protocols, and Investigations into Animal Cruelty Train-the-Trainer

Criminal Procedures, Protocols, and Investigations into Animal Cruelty is one of the mandatory TY 2020 In-service topics. This block of instruction will prepare the instructor to teach Criminal Procedures, Protocol and Investigations in Animal Cruelty and deliver this sensitive topic and provide officers with additional tools when they encounter possible animal cruelty. Power Point and lesson plan will be provided.

  • The laws pertaining to animal cruelty
  • Legal aspects of entry
  • Investigation protocol
  • What constitutes animal cruelty 

Instructor Requirements

  • Must be comfortable teaching criminal procedures, investigations and animal cruelty
  • Must be able to meet the MPTC Instructor Certification process to teach Criminal Procedures, Protocols, and Investigations into Animal Cruelty as part of TY 2020 In-service.
