Re: School Closure

Training New England, a Manchester, New Hampshire school that opened a branch in Massachusetts in December 2003, closed its doors effective March 5, 2004. As reasons for the closure, the school cited low enrollment and the failure of the building's landlord to complete repairs to bring the facility into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Training New England (Training NE) students and Greater Lowell Computer Center (GLCC) students who participated in a teach-out agreement with Training NE have the following options:

  1. Training New England Students:
Training New England's owner complied with the law and provided the Department a list of current students. According to the owner, students were either moved to the school's Manchester, New Hampshire facility, placed in a teach-out, or refunded any unused tuition.

Training NE students who have not been moved to Manchester, placed in a teach-out, or refunded their unused tuition should contact the Department by April 19, 2004.

  2. Greater Lowell Computer Center (GLCC) Teach-Out Students:
Please see the GLCC Bulletin #3 for further instructions.

Students attending school under M.G.L. 151A section 30 unemployment law and 430 CMR 9.0 should contact the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (formerly known as the Department of Employment and Training) to make the necessary adjustments to your claim.

Training NE has complied with 603 CMR 3.12(3) and has provided the Department with a name and contact information of a repositor who is responsible for maintaining students' permanent records, payment records, and enrollment contracts for a period of seven years from the date of closing. Any student needing access to his or her records should contact:

The Department greatly appreciates your help in keeping the volume of phone calls to a minimum by checking these bulletins. It helps our small staff concentrate on completing the high volume of work experienced by this unit. We thank you for your help and patience in this matter.
