Trial Court Strategic Plan

The Trial Court issued Strategic Plan 3.0 in July 2019 to set the direction and priorities for Fiscal Years 2020–2022. This is the third 3-year plan issued since the initial strategic planning process took place in 2012 and 2013. Progress on the plan will be overseen by court leaders who will meet quarterly to assess the actions underway to achieve tactics and milestones identified under each of the 5 priority areas: User Experience, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Judicial System Excellence, Operational Excellence, and Responsiveness to Societal Challenges.

Overview

The Trial Court Strategic Plan is an action plan for the court. It’s part of an ambitious effort to help move the court into a new era of data-informed court administration, technology, and innovation. The plan serves as a working document, and guides the Trial Court as we address the evolving needs of the people of Massachusetts. The goal of the strategic plan is to achieve the delivery of justice with dignity and speed.

Trial Court Strategic Plan

The Supreme Judicial Court approved Strategic Plan 1.0 developed by the Trial Court in June 2013. The product of extensive discussions between external and internal stakeholders, these plans are a combined effort from the Trial Court — judges, clerks, probation officers, security, and other court staff — as well as the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court. Many Trial Court users, such as lawyers, litigants, legislators, district attorneys, sheriffs, and others who are interested in and work with the justice system, also offered valuable input and advice.

To help keep momentum for the plan’s various aspects, a Strategy Implementation Team and Core Team will continue to oversee the plan’s implementation phases.
