The John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge was built in 1951 connecting Newburyport and Amesbury over the Merrimack River. The project corridor encompasses Newburyport, Amesbury, and Salisbury (from south to north) along I-95 between just north of Exit 57 (to Route 113) and the New Hampshire state border
