Hazardous Materials and Special Operations Emergency Responses

Learn about Hazmat and Special Operations emergency responses in Massachusetts and how to activate them.

DFS coordinates emergency response capabilities for the release or threat of release of hazardous materials. District Hazmat teams can respond to emergencies anywhere in the state in one hour to provide local fire departments with specialized personnel and equipment. DFS also provides Special Operations resources to support local fire departments with firefighter rehabilitation units, mobile command centers, drones, and other assets. DFS additionally coordinates the Massachusetts Technical Rescue Coordinating Committee.
