Day Mountain WMA

Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) are open to the public for fishing, hunting, trapping, hiking, and wildlife viewing.

Description

Day Mountain WMA consists primarily of rich mesic forests including hardwoods such as sugar maple, white ash, and basswood among others. White pine is also found throughout the property.  

Location, access, & parking

Parking access is located on East Street in Dalton.  See WMA map.    

Note: WMAs are intentionally wild, visitors will find natural landscapes rather than maintained trails.

Hunting opportunities

Day Mountain WMA provides suitable habitat and hunting opportunities for white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and ruffed grouse.

The Appalachian Trail abuts the property and cuts through the western part of the WMA.

Hunting is not allowed on the Appalachian Trail.
