Description

The Delaney WMA is held in fee by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and managed via a Memorandum of Understanding with MassWildlife. The property is comprised mainly of upland pine forest habitat, wetlands, and a 100-acre pond maintained by the Army Corp of Engineers (ACOE) for flood control.

Location, access, & parking

Parking can be found on Harvard Road, Finn Road, and Taylor Road. See WMA Map.

Note: WMA's are intentionally wild, visitors will find natural landscapes rather than maintained trails.

Hunting & fishing opportunities

Waterfowl is abundant and pre-built blinds are located on site and are available for use during the periodic controlled Canada geese hunt. Fur-bearers (including otter, muskrat, mink, raccoon and beaver) are common north of the dam. Deer, coyote, fox, turkey, and red and gray squirrels are common in the uplands. Warmwater fishing opportunities exist in Delaney Pond and the northern half of lower Delaney pond.

Wildlife viewing & other features

Delaney is an important area for bird nesting and is a great place for bird watching—especially for marsh birds. Osprey and bald eagles are occasionally seen hunting over the pond.
