Description
This area protects a unique natural area of ledges and outcrops comprised of dolomite, a magnesium-rich limestone. Conifers cover a large part of the area mainly along the lowest and highest slopes with hardwoods, mostly oaks, in the middle. Once at the “ledges”, the slope rises very steeply to the west gaining 1,000 vertical feet in just over 2,430 ground feet. The area is very steep with some flat ridges.
Location, access, & parking
There is no formal parking area. A small grass pull-off along Route 41 affords room for 2 to 3 vehicles. See WMA map.
Note: WMAs are intentionally wild, visitors will find natural landscapes rather than maintained trails.
Hunting opportunities
While the rocky terrain does not lend itself to easy hunting access, white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and bobcat may be pursued here.
Wildlife viewing & other features
This area is unique in its geology and has several old roads that meander through it.
