Green River WMA Williamstown

Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) are open to the public for fishing, hunting, trapping, hiking, and wildlife viewing.

Towns: Williamstown
Acreage: 496
Wildlife Management Zone1

Description

This WMA consists of multiple parcels of land along the Green River in Williamstown. The parcels consist predominantly of northern hardwoods with some white pine interspersed. The three southern parcels contain steeply sloped areas. License agreements allow for some small agricultural fields on the properties.

Location, access, & parking

Parking access for the southern parcels is located on Route 7, with a parking lot on the southernmost parcel. Parking can also be found on Route 43 for the northern parcels of the WMA. See WMA map.

Note: WMAs are intentionally wild, visitors will find natural landscapes rather than maintained trails.

Habitat management

Agricultural use for haying and certain crops is allowed on the three southern parcels of the property in accordance with license agreements.

Hunting & fishing opportunities

The Green River WMA provides excellent habitat for white-tailed deer and black bear, and wild turkey, particularly. The area is also surrounded by agricultural fields, providing wildlife food sources.  The Green River runs through all parcels of the property. The two northern parcels along Route 43 provide parking and easy access to the river. The Green River is stocked each year with trout. For more information, visit mass.gov/trout.
