Location, access, & parking

A well-marked gravel parking lot for 10 vehicles is located on Jug End Road in the town of Egremont. Additional parking and access can be gained from numerous other pull-offs and unmaintained lots along the roads surrounding this property. See WMA map.

Note: WMAs are intentionally wild, visitors will find natural landscapes rather than maintained trails.

Habitat management

The fields and shrublands at Jug End are maintained on a rotating basis. Some field are mowed annually. Efforts to release fruit bearing trees and to control invasive plants occur periodically.

Hunting opportunities

Signs of white-tailed deer and black bear are readily apparent on this property. The fields and shrub habitats are ideal for cottontail rabbit and other small game. Wild turkey are present here throughout the year and can be seen in the fields each spring.

Wildlife viewing & other features

Jug End is one of the most picturesque areas in the Southern Berkshires. With beautiful views and abundant wildlife it is an excellent place to visit for hunting or other outdoor recreational pursuits. Unlike other WMAs, Jug End has some walking paths that are maintained by DCR so, although the terrain is generally steep, much of the area can be accessed relatively easily. The remnants of an old golf course are still visible in some of the fields.
