Description
Mine Brook WMA consists of 4 separate parcels of lands in the area known as Douglas Woods. This property features scrub oak, mountain laurel, and lowbush blueberry swamps. The 3 larger parcels of this property border Douglas State Forest which provides over 20,000 acres of open space.
Location, access, & parking
A 5-vehicle, unmaintained dirt lot is available off Rawson Road in Webster. Additional pull-off parking can be found off Route 16 in Webster and Douglas. Access can be obtained from these areas or through Douglas State Forest. See WMA map.
Note: WMAs are intentionally wild, visitors will find natural landscapes rather than maintained trails.
Hunting opportunities
This area supports habitat for white-tailed deer and gray squirrel with its vast oak ridges.
Wildlife viewing & other features
These very rocky woods have probably never been plowed or developed to any major extent; thus, uncommon reptiles and amphibians inhabit the area. Some of the numerous vernal pools are home to uncommon dragonflies. On spring and summer evenings, listen for the distinctive calls of eastern whip-poor-wills.
