MSRB By the Numbers / March 2024
The State Retirement Board (MSRB) is working diligently to process the thousands of pending benefit requests and inquiries we regularly receive. We thank our members for their continued understanding.
- In March, the MSRB issued $245.86m in benefits to more than 71,123 retirees and beneficiaries. For 2024 the total benefits issued are more than $738.94m.
- The MSRB added 226 new benefit payees. The total for 2024 is 708 new benefit recipients.
- Accelerated payments were provided to 42 new retirees totaling $713k in gross retro-benefits approved for payment in mid-March. In 2024, the Board issued 212 accelerated payments, totaling over $3.78m in retro payments.
- For the payroll periods running February 24 through March 29, the MSRB Disbursement Unit processed 595 refunds/rollovers/transfers totaling approximately $14.8m in net funds issued. In 2024, the Disbursement Unit had processed more than 1,527 refunds/rollovers/transfers, totaling over $30.7m in net funds issued.
- MSRB staff fielded approximately 10,438 telephone calls for March 2024 that were made to the main department extensions. Over 7,726 calls were taken by the Call Center and over 701 by our Member Account Management and Retiree Benefit Account Management Units. (This data does not take into consideration those calls made directly to staff extensions.)
- As of the end of March, there are 54,112 retirees/survivors who subscribe to the monthly MSRB Retiree eNews Bulletin. This represents approximately 76% of our total retirees/beneficiaries.
