Description
Olivers Pond WMA protects a portion of the shoreline of Olivers Pond, a rare coastal plain pond. The majority of the property consists of mixed upland forest dominated by pitch pine, scrub oak, white pine and red oak, with the shoreline portion of the property dominated by marshy areas and herbaceous plants.
Location, access, & parking
There is no formal public access to this property but access may be gained through the abutting Hawksnest State Park and several small unofficial roadside parking areas along Spruce Road and Ve Trail. See WMA map.
Note: WMAs are intentionally wild, visitors will find natural landscapes rather than maintained trails.
Hunting opportunities
Hunting opportunities are very limited due to discharge setbacks and limited access points. However, there may be opportunities to trap aquatic furbearers.
Fishing opportunities
Olivers Pond provides warmwater fishing opportunities from shore or via paddle boats which can be carried in and launched from shore.
Wildlife viewing & other features
Wildlife viewing opportunities are good here due to the open water and marshy habitat surrounding the pond. A variety of aquatic species can be seen.
