Description
Sandwich Hollows WMA features mature white oak and white pine forest with some red maple and pitch pine. The understory is mostly young trees of the same species.
Location, access, & parking
This management area consists of 2 parcels. One of these parcels can be accessed from Ridgewood Drive where users can find parking for 2 cars. The other parcel is boxed in and can be accessed through the Maple Swamp Conservation Area which is managed by the Town of Sandwich. See WMA map.
Note: WMAs are intentionally wild, visitors will find natural landscapes rather than maintained trails.
Hunting opportunities
Hunting is very limited on the main parcel due to the close proximity of roads and dwellings. Hunting in the northwest corner allows for the pursuit of white-tailed deer, wild turkey, eastern coyote, gray and red fox, raccoon, opossum, gray squirrel, and ruffed grouse.
Wildlife viewing & other features
This forested area provides cover frequently preferred by upland game species which are best spotted at dawn and dusk.
