Description
Shaw Brook WMA is made up of 4 separate parcels in an area north of the East Branch of the Westfield River in Cummington. The area is primarily made up of upland forest with a mix of hardwood and softwood.
Location, access, & parking
A dirt lot for 3 vehicles can be found near the end of Stage Road and there are additional roadside pull offs along Route 9. See WMA map.
Note: WMAs are intentionally wild, visitors will find natural landscapes rather than maintained trails.
Hunting opportunities
The variety of forest types in this area provide good habitat for game animals including including white-tailed deer, black bear, eastern coyote, bobcat, raccoon, opossum, American woodcock, and a variety small game
Fishing opportunities
Shaw Brook WMA contains sections of Mill Brook and the Westfield River, both of which are stocked annually with trout. Both streams are also cold-water fisheries resources and contain naturally reproducing populations of trout. For more information about trout stocking visit mass.gov/trout.
