Learn how to submit a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice in Massachusetts.
Employers must notify state and local officials at least 60 days before a layoff or plant closing.

The Details

WARN requirements

Employers must submit a WARN letter when a worksite closing or layoff:

  • Affects 50 or more full-time employees; or
  • Affects at least 50 full-time employees and one-third of the worksite's total workforce; or
  • Affects 500 or more employees at a single site of employment; or
  • Meets the above criteria over a 90-day period

Employees with fewer than 6 months on the job are not counted in the full-time employee threshold.

How to submit

  1. Download the WARN notice template most appropriate for your business
  2. Complete the required information
  3. Email your completed WARN notice as a PDF or Word doc to warnnotice@mass.gov

Please do not mail or fax WARN notices.
