Who we serve

Our four multi-specialty hospitals provide acute and chronic medical care to individuals and is fully accredited as a hospital by The Joint Commission and meets the Conditions of Participation set by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) standards to ensure high quality care.

With an average daily census of over 700 patients, these hospitals serve as the Commonwealth’s medical safety net providing care for vulnerable patients whose complex medical and psychiatric co-morbidities prove to be a challenge to more traditional medical settings.

The Public Health Hospitals provide high quality medical care in a professional and caring manner. Each Public Health Hospital is Joint Commission accredited, providing 24/7 nursing and medical services and a full range of ancillary services.

At present, there are 147 medical-surgical beds, 6 MICU beds and 75 psychiatric. LSH is currently converting office space on the psychiatric units to patient rooms; this will add 20 beds for a total of 95 psychiatric beds. Of the 147 medical-surgical beds, 29 are Department of Correction beds. The Hospital's services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity.
